WHEN THE CONSEQUENCES OF HISTORY CAN'T BE BURIED
St Louis, in the south west of France, overshadowed by its imposing gothic church and derelict art deco cinema, still echoes with the horror of its World War II Occupation.
Compelled to revisit the town's magnificent chateau, remembered so vividly from her childhood, Verity Chambers arrives to discover it decaying and up for sale.
Alone at the chateau, moving impatiently amongst her priceless iconic photography and treasured art collection, Cloé Leuvielle awaits Verity's return, increasingly unsure of their fate.
Finding himself drawn once again to St Louis, with his wife and teenage sons, Frank encounters an old acquaintance and begins to relive disturbing experiences from his past.
After years of silence, to preserve his future and everything that matters to him, Frank has no choice but to confront the threatening secret that he has kept hidden for so long.

Author's Note
Very occasionally, we encounter somewhere special that ignites our imagination. For me it was the chateau, which I chanced upon during an online holiday search, more than 20 years ago.
Although it was never properly open to paying guests or welcoming of impromptu visitors, I somehow managed, with a telephone call in very poor French, to secure a stay for myself, my husband and our young sons.
Following our first intriguing visit, we were invited to holiday at the chateau each summer for over a decade. We returned, each time, falling more and more in love with the mysterious old building and its enigmatic owner.
When our visits finally had to end, my family was left with enduring memories that still frequently punctuate our conversations 20 years later. And I was left with a story to tell.
